Rediscovering Your Soul's Purpose

Updated: 4 days ago

Part 4 of The Soul's Journey - Living Your Soul's Purpose

In the earlier parts of The Soul’s Journey, you’ve awakened parts of yourself long forgotten. You’ve begun listening for the quiet truths beneath the noise and remembering who you are at your core. Now, a deeper question emerges: Why are you here?

Not in the sense of a job description or a title. But in the sacred sense of what your soul came here to express, experience, and expand into.

This chapter invites you to reclaim your soul’s compass—the inner orientation that points you toward freedom, fulfillment, and truth.

Life Purpose vs. Soul Purpose

In our busy, title-driven world, we often confuse what we do with who we are. But these are two very different things:

  • Life purpose is outward-focused. It’s the roles we take on, the careers we build, the goals we pursue. It changes over time, often tied to our stage of life or circumstances.

  • Soul purpose is inward-rooted. It’s the essence of who you are—unchanging, eternal, and not defined by any external achievement. It’s the way your spirit naturally expresses itself in the world.

You might express your soul purpose through your life purpose—but they’re not the same. Think of life purpose as the vessel and soul purpose as the wind that moves it.

When we lose touch with our soul purpose, life can feel hollow, even when everything looks “successful.” But when we lead from soul, life becomes richer, more aligned, and deeply fulfilling.

A Client’s Discovery: From Role to Radiance

I once worked with a client who was deeply embedded in her life roles—caretaker, professional, community leader. When asked who she was beyond those identities, she paused. “I don’t know,” she said softly.

During her equine-assisted coaching session, I offered only one invitation: Be with the horse in whatever way fills your soul.

She stood, uncertain, asking repeatedly, “But what do you want me to do?” Each time, I answered gently: “Whatever fills your soul.”

Her frustration built. She didn’t know how to respond without a role to play. “I don’t know what you expect of me,” she finally said, eyes full of tears. “So I don’t know what to do.”

I asked her a single question: “How do you want to feel in this moment—with the horse?”

She blurted out: “I just want to feel the freedom of being me.”

That moment cracked something open.

Until then, she had tried to lead the horse. It resisted—pulling, bumping into her, refusing to follow. But after our conversation, I quietly unclipped the lead rope and gave the horse the freedom to move. Then I invited her to engage in whatever way felt true.

At first, it was awkward. She was touching a part of herself she hadn’t felt in a long time. But slowly, that part came alive. She and the horse began moving together—no rope, no pressure. Just connection.

Sometimes the horse led, other times she did. They explored the arena side by side, attuned, curious, and free.

She later told me she realized that while she enjoyed her life purpose, her soul was craving something more: laughter, exploration, peace, presence, and meaningful participation in her own life.

Her breakthrough wasn’t about doing—it was about being.

Until then, may you listen closely, live gently, and trust what lights you up.

And remember—your soul purpose is your compass. It may not always give you a step-by-step map, but it offers something far more powerful: direction. It points you toward experiences, people, and paths that nourish the truest parts of who you are. When life feels uncertain or overwhelming, return to this compass. Let it guide you—not with pressure, but with presence. Not with urgency, but with deep inner knowing.
