Returning to the Sacred Within

Part 2 of The Soul’s Journey: Remembering Who You Are

In Part 1 of The Soul’s Journey, we explored the idea that remembering who you are isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about returning to the essence that’s always been there. But once that remembering stirs something inside you… what comes next?

You come home. Not to a place. But to yourself. To your breath. Your body. Your truth.

This is what I call returning to the sacred within.

The Sacred Isn’t Far Away

We often imagine sacredness as something “out there”—something reserved for mountaintops, quiet monasteries, or far-off retreats. But the truth is:

“The sacred doesn’t live far away. It lives within.”

It lives in the quiet breath you take before speaking your truth.

It lives in the goosebumps you get when something just feels right.

It lives in that tug in your chest when your soul is whispering, “Remember me.”

Returning to the sacred within isn’t complicated. It’s simply about creating space for your soul to speak—and giving yourself permission to listen.

A Personal Story: Dancing My Way Back to Me

When I was a little girl, I took dance lessons—tap and ballet. I loved to dance. I loved the rhythm, the movement, the joy of simply letting my body express what words never could.

Then the teenage years came, and dancing changed. It wasn’t about lessons and recitals anymore—it was about school dances, social circles, and sometimes boys. While still fun in its own way, it was different. More about appearances. Less about joy.

Then adulthood arrived. Responsibilities multiplied. Dancing quietly disappeared—tucked away behind career, marriage, motherhood, and the thousand other things that tend to take up space in a woman’s life.

But several years ago, after I separated from my now ex-husband, something inside me stirred.

A young girl dancing and the saying "The opportunity to
find happiness
dances within
every moment,
beats within every heart, and
grooves within
every occurrence, situation, and event."

A whisper. A memory. A longing.

I remembered how much I loved to dance.

And I decided to do something about it.

I found my way back—this time through two things I enjoy deeply: country music and dancing. Whether it’s being twirled across the floor in a two-step or country swing, laughing with girlfriends during a night of line dancing, or simply moving to the rhythm in my living room, dancing has become one of my pathways back to the sacred within me.

When I dance I feel alive and in-tune with my joy.

And that’s the truth of this sacred return:  Do what you love. Do what your soul longs for. That’s how you come home.

Practices That Guide You Home

You don’t need hours of meditation or perfect circumstances. Small moments of presence can bring you back to yourself:

  • Time in nature – not to accomplish, but to be

  • Listening to your body – asking what it needs, and honoring the answer

  • Noticing what brings aliveness – joy, goosebumps, emotion, stillness

The more you notice, the more you feel.

The more you feel, the more you reconnect.

Your most honest place of connection is by doing – dancing, horseback riding, hiking, reading, cleaning house, whatever it is that makes your heart smile, and is an action sparked from the inside out.

A 3-Step Soul Re-connection Practice

Try this simple, 3-step practice anytime you feel disconnected or overwhelmed:

  1. Pause - Step away from the noise. Take three deep breaths. Let yourself land.

  2. Presence - Ask yourself, “What am I feeling in this moment?” Let it rise without judgment.

  3. Permission - Ask, “What does my soul need today?” Then actually give yourself permission to do it—rest, walk, say no, say yes, create, cry, play.

This tiny ritual can become a powerful portal to your inner world.

The Sacred Mirror — A Moment with Max

Client Story

“Well, that’s the story of my life. What I want most gets close… and then it walks away like Max.”

That’s what my client Monica said, a little hurt and frustrated, as Max—my intuitive miniature horse—turned and walked away after quietly observing her.

Before stepping into the arena, she had told me how excited she was to simply be with a horse again. To brush one. Breathe in that familiar, comforting scent. Let herself enjoy something she’d loved since childhood. And she’d always wanted a miniature horse of her own.

But the moment she approached Max, something changed. Her presence pulled back. She hung in the background instead of stepping into what she wanted.

Through our conversation, Monica uncovered a powerful truth:  She had learned early in life that if she let herself enjoy something too much—if she really showed how much she wanted it—it might be taken away. So over time, she protected herself by holding back from her own joy.

That day, Max became her mirror. And through that reflection, she found clarity—and courage.

By the end of the session, she was brushing him, singing softly, and walking beside him with a radiant smile on her face. Her energy was open, alive, and full of light.

That moment wasn’t just about being with a horse.

It was about saying yes to joy. Yes to desire. Yes to the sacred part of herself she had long hidden away.

That’s what returning to the sacred within can look like—simple, quiet, and absolutely life-changing.
